Hybrid orthodontics is a modern approach to correcting misaligned teeth by combining clear aligners with fixed appliances. The biomechanics of tooth movement differ significantly between the two methods: with fixed braces, the wire pulls the tooth in the desired direction, while with clear aligners, the plastic pushes the tooth.
It is crucial that the orthodontic specialist is well-versed in both techniques, including their biomechanics and limitations, to provide the patient with the best possible treatment outcome. Some patients may wear clear aligners in one dental arch and fixed braces in the other. In other cases, treatment may begin with clear aligners in both arches and finish with fixed braces, or vice versa.
Our responsibility is to carry out the treatment using the optimal appliance while respecting the patient’s preferences regarding aesthetics and functionality.
